KECKU open-sources the core of Musubi, a data integration platform for drones, robots and sensors

Aiming to reduce development and maintenance work when equipment is added or updated through reusable adapters

KECKU Co., Ltd. has published the core of Musubi, its data integration platform, along with an adapter template, synthetic-data examples and validation tests as open-source software on GitHub.

The code and documentation let companies and developers working on equipment and systems for agriculture, equipment inspection, logistics and disaster response explore data conversion and develop and test adapters.

Musubi normalizes observations into a common format and carries information about their source and missing fields alongside the data. Developers can inspect the public code to understand the processing pipeline and use it to develop and test their own adapters.

Background

To use field data in business applications, equipment manufacturers and system developers must account for differences in communication methods, data formats, units and coordinate references, then convert the data for each receiving system. For example, when an inspection robot has separate integrations for map displays and maintenance records, a change in its specifications can require both integrations to be updated and tested again.

KECKU is working to make this repeated conversion and validation work reusable. Musubi separates conversion of input data into a common format from processing that data for different uses. Reusing adapters and common processing is intended to limit the scope affected by specification changes.

This open-source release lets developers inspect the processing logic and explore extensions for their requirements. Sharing the code, adapter interface and validation tools provides a foundation for developing custom adapters and checking their behavior after changes.

What is included

The release includes the data integration core, development and validation examples for civilian use cases, and documentation.

  • Data integration core and build and test instructions

    Source code that organizes observations into a common format and attaches status information, including missing fields and the reasons for that status. Instructions demonstrate the pipeline using synthetic data.

  • Common data model and adapter interface

    Definitions for observations and equipment state in a common format, and the interface adapters implement. Source, time, conversion notes and missing-data information accompany the observations.

  • Adapter template and use-case examples

    An input adapter template and development instructions based on a fictional device format, plus examples that summarize and inspect common-format data for uses such as agriculture and maintenance. These provide a reference for custom adapter development.

  • Synthetic data and validation tests

    Generated test data and tests for conversion results and specified adapter-interface conditions. These validate the structure and processing of the code and adapters; they are not compatibility tests with physical devices.

  • This is a source-code preview for development and evaluation.
  • The examples use synthetic data; connectivity and compatibility with physical devices or existing products have not been tested.
  • GitHub documents the code structure, run instructions and scope of validation.
  • Musubi handles observations and does not transmit instructions to operate or control devices.
